Chairman’s Report

March 8, 2012

Chairman Pat Bearup said that Mike Mathis will be our announcer for this year’s rodeo.  Our slack will be held on Wednesday and if needed a second slack will be held on Friday.  He is not making any progress with the National Pendleton Whisky.  He thinks it may be because our market is too small.  He may see if Crown Royal is interested.  We are working on major sponsorships and box buyers.  Invoices have sent out invoices for this year’s rodeo.  PD Wilkerson is working on getting information out to the vendors.  We will stay the same price for the spaces this year.  Alaina is working on designing the rodeo poster.  It will hopefully be a larger collectible poster this year, something like what was done in the beginning of the annual Wild Wild West Pro Rodeo.  There will be an additional informational flier available as well.

The committee has been discussing options for having a local rodeo queen and putting together some qualifications. If anyone is interested in helping with this program, please let us know.

The annual Walt Nichols memorial team roping will he held on Friday, May 31st.  World Champion Team Roper Jake Barnes will be back this year for the team roping clinic June 1 & 2.  The Pot of Silver open team roping, and hopefully calf roping depending on stock availability will be held on Tuesday, June 4th.  Jeanette Hamilton will once again host the Exceptional Rodeo on Wednesday at 6:15 pm.

Silver City MainStreet has committed to holding a rodeo parade again this year.  Details are still being worked out.

It’s getting down to the wire and the Rodeo Committee is working hard.  Let’s start getting the word out to the community and fill the stands to the seams!
